CliffsNotes
I thought that perhaps I should give you all a quick run down of the 'little-by-little' work that's been happening while I've been somewhat distracted recently.
Progress:
So far the boy has managed to finish off the fiddly bits around the front verandah edges. I'm so happy we decided to leave the timber the stained colour instead of painting it cracked slate.
Kitchen:
We now have a 'temporary' kitchen (it's likely to be 'temporary' for at least 5 years).
Cheap 'temporary' dishwasher that works as well as the really expensive one we had in our last house.
Cheap second hand oven supplied by the new plumber (don't ask me why we have a new plumber it's still a sensitive topic).
Running water!
Why is the boy so happy? He doesn't have to fill a bucket in the bathtub in order to wash the dishes!
Pottery:
A few more things have been fired, but the really exciting part is that I've finally made a start on the bathroom basins! The first one is a bit of a tester to see if everything will work and it's currently being bisqued. I'm keen to see how my glaze tests come out as well.
Garden:
We've slowly started putting the bones of our garden in place and made a start on the veggie patch ... yum!

The Melaleuca patch.
Life at Toxteth:
The boy's mum is pretty excited about the kidlet and has started buying 'essentials' like teeny tiny non-slip socks.
Anoushka has decided the best place to hang out is in the clean, folded laundry.
Ambrose is enjoying the sun. He worries me a little as he's already fallen (quite spectacularly) off the back verandah once.
The ladies are getting bigger and have begun laying (we were worried it might never happen and then we'd have to turn them into chicken soup).

A lot has happened ...
since last I posted. Here's the latest I have photos of, though I've been told by the boy that I'm falling behind. The floods have slowed us a bit, Ross the Painter was meant to start painting our roof this week. I'm almost certain that he was starting to paint our roof the last time it flooded out this way too ... hmmm ... I'm beginning to believe that we have a voodoo flood roof of some description on our hands!
And moving right along ... our plumbing is in! Though the only sign is this odd little unidentified white thing-y in the front yard and a now immaculately leveled strip of ground around the front and side of the house.
The font verandah decking is now 99.99% finished. The boy decided that the very final board might have to wait, after a slight error with his calibrated eye due to extreme lack of light. It seems the top of our verandah rails have gone missing somewhere during this process.
Our stove recess now has weatherboards, while our proposed kitchen extension now has none.
The pavers that narrowly missed being demolished during the restump have been revealed in most of their former glory (the bobcat operator did accidentally demolish more than we managed to save).
After much bashing of pavers, we now have the beginnings of a pad for our gas bottles. We wanted natural gas, but would have had to fork out $10 000 to get the existing gas line upgraded as it's currently at capacity already. Um ... thanks but no thanks.
I dropped round in time for lunch and we discovered a hive of native bees living in the leg of the picnic bench in the park over the road. We convene in the park for lunch due to the fact that we only have one plastic chair at Toxteth at the moment.
I also provided paver bashing moral support and tested a couple of additional paint colours.
My little great-nephew dropped by with his mum, dad and older sister. They'll be moving into the a house that was relocated to another part of the original Toxteth block.
And all of this activity was watched over by another future neighbour ... who seems to have developed a taste for KFC. Now how could that have happened?!

What we did on Labour Day
Moved our newly inherited kitchen table in.
Sanded off some lead paint in the bathroom and foyer ... only to the height of the second belt rail as we're all too short to reach any higher!
Uprooted and re-potted gerberas for transportation and safe keeping in Gympie.
Moved a whole pile of rubbish out from under the house.
Enjoyed a few beers.
Salvaged some bricks.
Moved the bathtub in (no photos as I was too busy being scared someone would fall off the side of the house / the floor would be damaged / someone would drop the tub on themselves / the tub would fall through the floor / insert other life threatening or house damaging disaster here).
Painted aforementioned bathtub.
Thought about moving and painting the kitchen. Don't you just love the pink and grey colour scheme and mouse / insect sized ventilation holes!?
